About the Fellowship

CAPRIS UKIM invites:

· Young post-doc researchers

· Junior fellows

· Advanced PhD students

· Professionals in:

Architecture, Urban Planning & Design, Visual Arts, Performative Arts, Civic/ICT Engineering, Data Science, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, Philosophy, and related fields

to conduct research in our highly collaborative and experimental setting, featuring:

· Independent study with guidance from leading scientists

· Exchange with leading scientists and emerging innovators, designers and scholars from Europe and beyond

Research Focus

Fellows will explore:

· New forms of spatial thinking

· Data/evidence driven projects

· Innovative urban/technical research practices

· Integrated approaches connecting technical, cultural, social, economic, and strategic urban factors

Fellows will contribute to interdisciplinary studies in:

1. Urban Planning (Strategic/Integrated/Data-Driven)

2. Urban Mobility (Sustainable/Smart)

3. Urban Policies (Innovative Management/Smart Institutions)

4. Urban Informatics (Big Data/AI/Smart Cities)

5. Urban Culture (Arts/Performative/Narratives)

6. Urban Legacy (Digital History/Heritage/Identity)

Expected Outcomes: High-impact research papers to advance sustainable urban development, green transformation, and digital transition.

Eligibility Criteria

· PhD holders (degree obtained ≤8 years before deadline)

· Exceptional PhD candidates (with strong proposals)

· Open to all nationalities

· Disciplines: Engineering, Humanities, Social Sciences, Arts

· Language: Fluency in English (working language)

· Selection: Double-blind peer review by the Fellowship Selection Board

Fellowship Conditions

· Duration: 6 months (2 cohorts):

o Cohort 1: November 2025–May 2026

o Cohort 2: April–September 2026

· Funding: Fellows will receive an additional funding for conference fees, publications fees, travel and accommodation costs, in total amount stated in their Fellowship agreement.

· Residency Support: CAPRIS UKIM will provide an assistance for the administrative procedure for regulating their residency in North Macedonia for the duration of the fellowship.

Regional Network of Centers for Advanced Studies of SEE

· The Call for Fellowship will stimulate fellows to undertake and present their research to growing network of academics engaging in Southeast Europe and Western Balkans. Fellows will benefit from the provided host support within the RECAS network of partner universities and Centers for Advanced studies at University of Rijeka, University of Belgrade, University of Sarajevo, University of Ljubljana, University of Tirana, University of Podgorica and University of Pristine, by their choice. Each fellow will have the opportunity to spend up to four weeks working on their research project at a partner university and connect with other scholars and research communities within their field, perform data gathering, and/or get experience with a particular research method.
