For the 11th-year workshop series in 2024, The AA Visiting School Bangkok will continue a process of work entitled.
‘Curartistry,’ curating everyday artistry in Bangkok, which the late Mark started Cousins in 2016.
AA Visiting School Bangkok is mainly exploring “Creatures in Architecture,” on the new theme introduced in 2023. They are more interested in animals and mythological creatures as signs and representations of the cities and mural paintings and sculptures defining the architectural spaces at different scales.
Some significant sites are detailed in Bangkok for the students to visit. Observing the imaginary creatures in temples, palaces, and private residences at a particular time of the day would serve as a stimulus to start the conversation through the participants' subjective experiences.
During this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to learn three sets of valuable skills. The culmination of their learning journey will be an exhibition on the 20th of December, where their final projects will be showcased and compiled into a hand-bound A2 art book. This hands-on experience and the recognition of their work in the exhibition will truly empower and value our participants, especially in using animals and mythological creatures to represent cities in mural paintings and sculptures, defining architectural spaces at different scales.
