On October 18, Bui Tien Thanh, Member of the Party Standing Committee and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Environment at the University of Transport and Communications, Vietnam, led a three-member delegation to visit our university. President Zhao Xiangmo met with the delegation in the VIP Room of the Administration Building on the Yanta Campus. The meeting was hosted by Wang Chunmei, Director of the Office of International Affairs, with Lin Baogang, Academic Dean of the School of Art, in attendance.

President Zhao extended a warmly welcome to the delegation and breifly introduced the university’s historical evolution, disciplinary strengths and international development initiatives. He noted that as the China-Vietnam comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership continues to deepen, mutually beneficial cooperation in education, science and technology is ushering in unprecedented historic opportunities. He expressed the hope that both sides will enhance mutual understanding and deepen trust, prioritize joint talent training, collaborative research, and cultural exchange, so as to foster deeper, more robust and sustainable cooperation between the two institutions.

Bui Tien Thanh expressed his appreciation to our university for the reception and introduced the development of the University of Transport and Communications, its disciplinary advancement and the current state of engineering construction in Vietnam. Recalling his prior visits to our university, he spoke highly of our institution’s scale of operation, teaching quality, research capacity and laboratory development. He mentioned that the two universities have signed a Memorandum of Understanding under the framework of the Silk Road International Alliance of Architectural and Technological Universities. Taking this visit as an opportunity, he hoped to establish a regular exchange mechanism, promote faculty and student exchanges as well as joint research in architecture, civil engineering, environmental engineering and related fields, and jointly cultivate high-caliber talents for China-Vietnam transport infrastructure development and people-to-people exchanges.

During the visit, the delegation also visited the School of Architecture, School of Civil Engineering, School of Urban Development and Modern Transportation, the Office of International Affairs, the School of International Education and university-affiliated enterprises. The delegation also took part in the 2026 China-Central Asia Science, Technology and People-to-People Exchange Series of Activities — the Silk Road International Forum on Deep Earth Energy Storage and Underground Space Development.
