At present, China's urban development has entered an important period of urban renewal, shifting from large-scale incremental construction to the simultaneous improvement of the quality of stock and incremental structural adjustment, and at the same time, people's requirements for housing construction have also shifted from the pursuit of "quantitative" to "qualitative".
"Low-quality supply under high environmental load" has become the main contradiction in China's housing construction. On the one hand, housing construction has high resource and energy consumption and high environmental load; on the other hand, the quality of housing is not high, and there are many quality problems. In the context of the country's green and low-carbon development, residents' demand for a good house is mainly focused on " Green, Low Carbon, Intelligent and Safe “, etc., in the face of the general requirements of "constantly enhancing the people's sense of achievement, happiness and security", the construction of a good house is to meet the people's needs for a better life. In the face of the general requirements of "continuously enhancing the people's sense of happiness and security", building a good house is an inevitable choice to meet the people's needs for a better life.
However, constrained by the traditional production and construction methods, as well as the prevailing problems of housing construction, such as focusing on scale rather than energy efficiency, surface rather than quality, skills rather than industry, and the present rather than the long term, the overall level of China's housing construction is not yet able to meet the requirements of high-quality development. Therefore, there is an urgent need to abandon the crude development model of large-scale demolition and construction, comprehensively promote the transition of China's housing construction to a new housing construction and supply model that represents the direction of high-quality development of green, low-carbon and livable housing, promote a new model of whole-life-cycle housing construction from development and construction to maintenance and use, and comprehensively enhance the quality of construction and the level of supply of new-generation residential building products.
This meeting is the first professional symposium organised by the Professional Committee on Residential Architecture of the Architectural Society of China (PCRC) after the inaugural meeting of the PCRC in July 2023, which will implement the concept of "people-centred quality development" in the 14th Five-Year Plan period of China. The conference will implement the concept of people-centred high-quality development in the 14th Five-Year Plan period of China, and take the important direction of enhancing people's well-being and improving people's quality of life put forward by the 20th National Congress as an important direction, and focus on the deployment of the key work of the national housing and urban-rural construction industry on letting the people live in a better house and improving the quality of housing, and invite experts and scholars in the industry to discuss the future development of China's housing construction.
